Make a Stool or Coffee Table - 2 Days, Sunday 1st & Sunday 8th March 2026, 10.00am to 6.00pm.
Stephen Ryan from Green Woodwork Ireland will teach you the skills needed to make your own piece of heirloom furniture to last generations, in the form of a traditional milking stool, otherwise known as a Creepie, alternatively you can also make a small coffee table.
This Two-day workshop encompasses the use of the shave horse, drill bench, bench vice and a variety of hand tools including the drawknife, auger drill, spokeshave, plane, tenon cutter, travisher, chisels, Japanese pull saw and much more.
This course is suited to all levels including complete beginners. As you will be working in a workshop environment, sturdy footwear is important. A good pair of boots is ideal and if you happen to have steel toe caps this would be even better. Open-toed or low-cut footwear is not suitable and may mean you cannot participate in the workshop. The tutor will supply safety gloves but if you have your own tight-fitting safety gloves feel free to bring them along, please also tie long hair back and remove jewellery that could get caught in equipment. These safety measures are to protect your hands and feet from cuts, to protect your feet from sharp and heavy tools and equipment being dropped and to stop your hair and jewellery getting caught in a drill or other pieces of equipment in the workshop. You must be aged 16 or over to attend this class. Workshop times are 10.00am to 6.00pm.
Please keep in mind that some of the workshop tasks can be a bit physical, but help will be on hand if you find any of the tasks challenging.
The workshop will be held at the Green Woodwork Ireland Workshop, Minnowburn. Workshops are non-refundable and non-transferable.
“Went on the two day course to make a milking stool. Absolutely loved it! Steve is a great teacher and the workshop is lovely. I didn’t think I’d be able to make something like that, if you have ever fancied trying woodwork then definitely give it a go.”
